⛔ American Lakes Trailhead & Michigan Ditch — Closed to all users
From 2026-07-13 – reopens late fall 2026 · State Forest State Park · Cameron Pass
Public safety during the Michigan Ditch Pre-Fire Mitigation Project. The Colorado State Forest Service and the City of Fort Collins are removing hazardous dead and beetle-killed trees and thinning fuels in the Michigan Ditch drainage.
🅿️ Parking is limited at Crags Campground and the Hwy 14 parking area. No parking along roadways or on grass.
Open instead: State Forest State Park recommends Ruby Jewel or Hidden Valley as open alternatives — and there are many open trails across the park’s 71,000 acres.

This route came into our atlas from COTREX, Colorado’s official statewide trail map, and the line you see here is that agency data — accurate, but bare. We have not walked it ourselves yet, so we are not going to dress it up with detail we cannot stand behind.
What is below is what the state data actually carries. If you know this one — the trailhead, the tread, what it is like in each season — help us make its page richer.

Know Before You Go
- This page is an honest baseline. The map geometry is real agency data; the write-up is not finished. We would rather show you an accurate line with a short description than invent detail we have not verified.
- Uses, from the state data. COTREX lists this as: Horse, Bike. Always defer to signs on the ground.
- Check current conditions. This record carries no hazard, closure or seasonal detail — see our fire restrictions and closures pages before you head out.
