Your Cozy Poudre Canyon Stop for Supplies, Souvenirs & Lunch
The Glen Echo Store & Poudre Pub Restaurant
Somewhere around the middle of the Poudre Canyon — right about where the road has been hugging the river long enough that you have forgotten what a stoplight looks like — the pines open up and there it is: a long log building with a porch, a gas pump out front, and the smell of waffles drifting through the screen door. This is Glen Echo, home of the general store and the Poudre Pub, and it has been the canyon’s front porch since 1925.
You know the idea of the cozy country store-and-restaurant — the one the big chains spend millions trying to bottle? This is the real thing. No manufactured nostalgia, no theme. Just a warm, unpretentious, genuinely welcoming stop in the little mountain hamlet of Rustic, Colorado, run by people who live out here and stock the shelves accordingly. Come dusty, come hungry, come as you are.

Right on the river, right where the roads meet
Glen Echo sits at 31503 Poudre Canyon Highway — that is Highway 14, the Cache la Poudre Scenic Byway — in Rustic, almost exactly where County Road 69 meets the highway. It is about 41 miles up the canyon from Fort Collins, roughly midway to Cameron Pass, and it is perched right on the bank of the Cache la Poudre River. Out here there is not much between one bend and the next, which is exactly why generations of canyon travelers have treated Glen Echo as the place to stop.

The store: your last real stop for miles
Pull in for whatever you forgot to pack. The general store carries the practical things that keep a canyon trip running — groceries and cold drinks, ice, firewood and propane, and gas at the pump — plus soft-serve ice cream, an Icee machine for the kids and a liquor store for the evening around the fire.

Souvenirs & Gifts
The gift shop is genuinely worth a browse: we walked out wanting the puffy sweatshirts

Pottery, Jewelry, Pillows & More
There is jewelry, pottery made right here in the canyon, an Icee machine for the kids, and the usual T-shirts and stickers to remember the trip by.

Bait, Tackle & Fishing Gear
Anglers can restock at the fly-fishing and tackle counter without driving all the way back down to town.

Outdoorsy Camping Pajamas
We were also eyeing a whole row of canyon-true pajamas.

The store is open daily year-round, with longer hours in summer and a shorter schedule in winter — the rare canyon stop you can count on being there when you need it.
One honest heads-up on prices: they run a little higher than what you would pay down in Fort Collins — but everything up here has to be trucked cold some 45 miles up the canyon. For a real store and a hot kitchen this far out, we will take that trade every time.
The Poudre Pub: waffles, burgers & fun.

An All Day Waffle Bar

Stick around after dark
Glen Echo is not just a daytime pit stop. Through the summer, the Poudre Pub becomes the canyon’s living room after the sun drops behind the ridge. There is trivia on Fridays, karaoke on Saturdays, and bingo on Thursdays — a proper little week of reasons to stick around, running mostly through the summer season. It is exactly the kind of small-town fun that makes you glad you booked the extra night.
The Poudre Pub: waffles, burgers & fun.
Next door, the Poudre Pub is exactly the kind of place you hope to find in a log cabin in the mountains: warm, rustic, and unfussy. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with an all-day waffle bar (yes, all day), a menu that runs from savory to sweet including burgers and chicken-fried steak.
We can vouch for the kitchen from a recent visit. The garlic-Havarti bison burger — drowned, against our better judgment, in A1 — sounded like a gamble and turned out unforgettable; our hesitation melted at the very first bite, and the potato salad alongside it was every bit as good. walk around the store while you wait and you will meet a couple of locals: a mountain lion and a moose, mounted on the log walls and keeping an eye on the room. And the service is the kind you remember — our iced tea never made it to half-empty before someone refilled it, no asking required.
Kitchen hours shift with the season — fuller in summer, quieter in winter — so it is always worth a quick call before you count on a hot meal: (970) 881-2208.

The Glen Echo story
A canyon institution since 1925
People have been pulling off at Glen Echo for a hundred years, and the reason is simple: it is real. It is the warm, welcoming, no-airs kind of place the whole canyon runs on — where the coffee is hot, the porch is open, and nobody minds that you are dusty from the trail. Stop in once and you will understand why it is one of the most-loved little corners on the entire Poudre.
They still have an old-fashioned maps rack!
